Teeth Whitening

Why teeth whitening is so important…

A smile with bright, beautifully whitened teeth has always been the preferred aesthetic for our patients (and for the rest of the world!). White teeth are a sure sign of a happy, healthy mouth, and, at Candid Smiles Dentistry, we’re pleased to provide expert whitening techniques for all our patients.

Here’s a quick overview of our teeth whitening procedure:

Getting started…

We begin by doing a full evaluation of old fillings, crowns, and other restorative dental work. Since professional teeth whitening is only effective on natural tooth enamel, we make sure to replace all previous tooth restorations after bleaching. This way they’ll be perfectly matched to your newly whitened natural teeth!

Ongoing support…

We always stress to our clients that teeth whitening is not permanent. A touchup may be needed every few years (more often if you smoke or drink coffee, tea, wine, etc.).

Whenever you need to freshen your smile, we’ll be ready to help! Whitening checkups can be added to your current Candid Smiles Dentistry dental treatment plan at any time.

What does teeth whitening involve?

This type of teeth whitening usually requires two visits.  At the first appointment, impressions (molds) will be made of your teeth to fabricate custom, clear, plastic, trays.

At your second appointment, you will try on the trays for proper fit, and adjustments will be made if necessary.  The trays are worn with special whitening solution either twice a day for 30 minutes or overnight for a couple of weeks depending on the degree of staining and desired level of whitening.  It is normal to experience tooth sensitivity during the time you are whitening your teeth, but it will subside shortly after you have stopped bleaching.

You will receive care instructions for your teeth and trays, and be encouraged to visit your dentist regularly to help maintain a beautiful, healthy, white smile.

Before and After

How Whitening Works

At Candid Smiles Dentistry, teeth whitening usually requires a total of two visits.

During the first appointment, impressions (molds) of your teeth will be made to help us construct customized plastic trays that will eventually hold the KöR whitening gel.

At your second appointment, we’ll test the trays to ensure a proper fit (making adjustments if necessary). Then we’ll provide you with a complete set of instructions for using the trays, which will be filled with the special KöR whitening solution and worn either twice a day for 30 minutes or overnight for a couple of weeks––depending on the degree of staining and desired level of whitening.

Note: It’s normal to experience tooth sensitivity during whitening treatments. But not to worry, this feeling will subside shortly after you’ve stopped bleaching.

We encourage you to visit us regularly after initial treatments are complete. This will help you preserve your beautiful, healthy, brilliantly white smile. We also recommend that you take advantage of KöR’s easy at-home maintenance plan, which will allow you to continue to enjoy things like coffee and wine without tarnishing your newly whitened teeth.
